The Mouse Ran Up The Clock

Tick, tock, tick, tock. Okay, I don't really have any news to post, just checkin' in. We are expected to hear about our first trip in the next few weeks, same as before. I've been doing more projects around the house to stay busy and spending as much time w/ our son in his final few months as an only child! He is loving kindergarten! He took his lunch for the first time today in his Star Wars Clone Wars lunch box. I put a surprise note in it for him, which he loved.

Our Big Kid Kindergartner!

First Day of Kindergarten (should have gotten a little closer, but at that hour, I'm lucky he was in the frame!)

Well, it had to happen. Our son is now a big ole' kindergartner! We both took him to school (which starts at the crack of dawn --- 7:55 a.m.!) and got him situated in his new class. His teacher is very nice and there was tranquil music playing to ease the transition from home to "real life!" He had a great day and is ready to go back tomorrow. Who wouldn't love getting a Skittles every time you do what you are told and having chicken nuggets for lunch? His first project was to draw a picture of what he liked most about summer. He drew a picture of himself swinging on his new play set. He has little blisters on his hands from swinging so much! :)

No word yet on when we will make Trip 1, so stay tuned...

We are next!!!

The family in front of us got "the call" today, so we are next! On pins and needles waiting to see when we are going to Russia!

Our son starts kindergarten on Wednesday, so we'll post pictures of his first day. At least this year, there are an equal number of boys and girls instead of all girls in his class. He will be going to all day kindergarten. Can't believe my sweet baby boy is turning in a sweet big kid!

Did we adopt a giraffe?

No, we didn't but I thought the snowsuit was missing something when I took the picture (like, I don't know a baby???), so I thought that the baby's giraffe could work as a stunt double for the photo. As you can see, this is a picture of the sweetest snowsuit ever created! And, yes, those are ears on top of the hood! Jamie, my Frua friend (Frua is a great online community for adoptive parents) was kind enough to bestow upon us the snowsuit that her Russian Princess left the orphanage in. Isn't it adorable? Her daughter is even more adorable, if you can believe that!

Okay, you might be wondering why on Earth we are worrying about snowsuits in August, right? Well, for when you finally get to take your little one from the orphanage, the nursery workers dress or oversee the dressing of the baby. Now, if it's below 70 degrees, they MUST have on a snowsuit. If you do not have one, you must go buy one so that they are satisfied that the baby is sufficiently warm. Not only must they wear the snowsuit (with foot covers that go over the shoes and hand covers over the mittens, a hat that covers the ears in addition to the hood), they also literally put them in 4-5 layers underneath the snowsuit. By the time the baby is ready to go, they are usually, I hear, sweating profusely.
Once in the car, at a safe distance from the orphanage, the new parents rapidly unearth their new child, unpeeling them like an onion. Maybe they do this so that you can unwrap your child like a present? I think it's more akin to how folks here (usually of the elderly variety) insist that you must wear a hat if it's windy so you don't get an earache (huh?) and that you can catch a cold from having wet hair (not from a virus, right?). So, this is why we need a snowsuit! Not to mention the prices of these things in winter time is crazy and we surely couldn't have found one as cute!

Also, you may have noticed the addition of even more pink on the blog. I just thought, there has to be a way to make this blog even more pink and whammo, there was! It just can't get girlie enough, ya think?

AND, we found out from our agency that it's highly likely that we will be traveling on Trip 1 in mid-late September!!!!!!!!!!!

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Here are pictures of our son with his new play set. He's one lucky boy! His Nina and Granddad gave it to him as an early birthday present. Just in time, because he was almost heavy enough to tip over his baby slide. It will be just right for the baby, however. We'll add a baby swing when Sweet Baby gets here.

I don't know what happened, but I filmed this sideways. If anyone knows how to fix this, let me know! Otherwise, just turn your head before viewing. I take no responsibility for neck injuries acquired while watching. Mom, click on the arrow to play! ; )

Also, things are moving right along with our new agency, so we may be going earlier this Fall than we thought! Yay-whoooo!!!
